Current status of Covid in the country

India has logged 40,120 new cases of Covid-19 in the past 24 hours taking the cumulative figure to 32,117,826. With an additional 585 people succumbing to the infection, the death toll in the country climbed up to 4,30,254, as per data released by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Friday.
The total number of recoveries have increased to 31,302,345 and the active cases of Covid-19 have come down to 385,227. The case fatality rate now stands at 1.34 per cent, said the health ministry in its report released at 8am.
There has been an improvement seen in the national Covid-19 recovery rate which now stands at 97.45 per cent.
On Thursday, there were nearly 19,70,495 Covid-19 tests conducted across the nation. With this the total number of testing done so far has reached 48,94,70,779 as per data shared by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).

So far as vaccinations are concerned, the health ministry has stated that the cumulative vaccine doses that have been so far administered across the country is 528.9 million.
The ministry also said, that states and union territories are in receipt of over 540.4 million Covid-19 vaccine doses so far. There are a further 1,09,83,510 doses of the vaccine that are in the pipeline.
On June 21, after an announcement made by the prime minister of India, Narendra Modi, the universalization of Covid-19 vaccination started. The vaccination drive has ever since received a boost with the help of more and more vaccine doses that have been made available to states and union territories. They have also received added support from the Centre who have been supplying the vaccine doses free of any charge.
According to the health ministry, the entire vaccination exercise is an instrument that helps take care of the most vulnerable sections of the population from the pandemic as it continues to be closely monitored and reviewed at the highest level.
It is being forecasted by experts that a possible third wave of the coronavirus pandemic may be around the corner and may hit as early as the end of this month. There has also been a spike seen in the past few days in the daily number of positive Covid-19 cases, which is being attributed to the highly transmissible Delta variant.
