Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana has made headlines for its content and budget as well as its casting. While previous reports suggested that Mahesh Babu and Hrithik Roshan would play the leads – Ram and Ravana, respectively – Bollywood heartthrob Ranbir Kapoor has been approached to play Lord Ram.

For the uninitiated, it was revealed shortly after Mahesh's name was associated with the film that the Telugu superstar had turned it down in favour of an ambitious SS Rajamouli film set in the African jungles. According to a Peepingmoon report, Nitesh Tiwari has offered Ranbir Kapoor the three-part 3D epic Ramayana. According to the report, the filmmaker has approached Kapoor about playing Ram opposite Hrithik Roshan's Ravana. It's also been reported that Ranbir, who is currently filming Luv Ranjan's untitled romantic comedy with Shraddha Kapoor, has expressed interest in the project and is seriously considering taking it on.

“Nitesh Tiwari is looking for the best-in-class actor who can completely devote himself to the character of Ram, and he believes Ranbir Kapoor perfectly fits the bill as he has that charming presence Nitesh is specifically seeking in an actor,” a source close to the development of this 3D epic Ramayana trilogy told the portal. Ranbir is overjoyed with this offer and will make a decision after hearing the entire storey. He hasn't given his approval yet, but he's very likely to approve the project.”

This three-part Ramayana project, produced by Madhu Mantena, Allu Aravind, and Namit Malhotra, will reportedly go on floors in mid-next year. According to reports, directors Nitesh Tiwari and Ravi Udyawar, as well as screenwriter Sridhar Raghavan, are working hard to present the film on a never-before-attempted scale. They are conducting extensive research in order to create a world that will make Indians proud. According to reports, the producers are determined to create a cinematic magnum opus with an estimated budget of around 700 crores.
