Chief Minister of Bihar Nitish Kumar rebuffed the chief of the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) Chirag Paswan over his role in the Bihar elections and the seat-sharing precepts in the Assembly polls. The Janata Dal United got pushed to the anterior in the state’s ruling alliance.

At a recently organized memorial for Paswan’s father Ram Vilas Paswan on the occasion of his first death anniversary, Kumar was conspicuously absent despite receiving an invite to attend the gathering which was attended by all important political entities in the state.

With only a one -line press release, Nitish’s respects for the deceased leader were conveyed by his party, with no explanation for his absence.

Meanwhile, several leaders from the Bharatiya Janata Party, Kumar’s alliance partner, attended the ceremony in full strength in Patna.

Among the attendees was senior BJP leader Sushil Modi who flew down from Bengaluru to attend the ceremony, despite having his son admitted in hospital.

Sushil Modi wrote in a Twitter post in HIndi, “Ram Vilas Paswan was not only a leader of the Dalits, but a serious person who took care of all sections of the society, so people rose above party sentiment and came to pay tribute to him.”

Among the others who showed up on the occasion were Governor Phalgu Chauhan, one of the first to turn up at the venue, Bihar Assembly Speaker Vijay kumar Sinha, Chairman of the Bihar Legislative Council Avadesh Narayan Singh, Deputy Chief Minister Renu Devi, Union Minister Nityanand Rai. Moreover, several BJP ministers in Nitish Kumar's cabinet were also present. Former Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi was also among those who came early.

As Nitish Kumar made his antagonism with Paswan very clear ever since the elections, he on several occasions refused to grant an audience to the younger leader, especially after the latter’s party split earlier this year.

Kumar in fact, laid the blame for the party’s low number of seats in the polls on Paswan’s rebellion against his leadership.

Paswan said earlier, “"I have asked for time but it is not easy to meet the Chief Minister. Especially when it comes to me, he does not give an appointment. I hope he gives me an audience at least before the event.”
