Royal Challengers Bangalore Clinch Their Spot in IPL Playoffs After Registering 6 Run Victory Against Punjab Kings

Royal Challengers Bangalore beat the Punjab Kings by 6 runs in the 48th match of this season of the Indian Premier League in Sharjah on Sunday. With this win, the RCB made its way into the knockout rounds.

RCB has registered a total of sixteen points with 8 wins and 4 defeats while Punjab remains tied with three other teams, all of whom are locked at 10 points and contending for the last spot in the playoffs squad.

Although they had a shaky start especially with a brilliant bowling spell by Punjab’s Moses Henriques (3/12), the RCB soon managed to find a foothold. Glenn Maxwell (57) was the highest scorer for the RCB side and captain Virat Kohli gave the team a good opening stand along with Devdutt Pdikkal. The team put up a target of 165 runs.

On the PBKS side, Captain K L Rahul alongside Mayank Agarwal (57) registered a good score in their chase. However, the team started faltering soon after Rahul’s exit and successive fall of wickets after that, lending the Bangalore team an upper hand.

The stellar opening partnership by Rahul and Mayank was broken after a 91-run partnership in their 165-run chase, by Shahbaz Ahmed who dismissed the former.

Yuzvendra Chahal went on to pick three wickets including the big hitters like Mayank Agarwal, and brought the Bangalore side into the game. Punjab’s loss of wickets in quick succession kept the team from achieving the target.

While PBKS hopes were risen for a brief period after the initial dismissals with Aiden Markram’s spell, his dismissal at the hands of George Garton soon quashed their expectations.
