The nine-day festival of Navratri is celebrated across the country with a spirit of divinity. Many people also fast for the nine auspicious days.
“During Navratri, those who fast abandon the grain or 'Anna' and eat seasonal products. Foods such as sweet potatoes, arbi, raw bananas, potatoes, yams, dudhi / lauki or bottle gourd are consumed. These vegetables provide a grounded feeling and help the body stay calm and stable. These vegetables are packed with micronutrients, fiber, and complex carbohydrates that are essential for the body to use during this fasting period. She added that millet, fruit and nut flours are widely used in the making of traditional breads, halwas and chutneys. Rajgira atta (amaranth flour), singhare ka atta (water chestnut flour), raw banana flour, kuttu atta (buckwheat flour) and sago are incorporated into fasting meals. These are called "upwas ka khaana". These foods are rich in vitamins and minerals, easy to digest, and easy on the stomach. Himalayan salt or Sendha Namak is also part of the meals during Navratri as it contains trace elements and helps cleanse the body, ”she shared.
