Stellar performances by some of the Delhi Captains' players saw their team home with six wickets to spare in Match 12 of the Indian Premier League, 2021 against Mumbai Indians yesterday at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Shikhar Dhawan's batting contribution bagged the team some quick runs (45 runs off 42 balls) in the middle overs, along with  a sensible closure by Lalit Yadav (22 runs off 25 balls) and Shimron Hetmyer (14 runs off 9 balls), who got their team to register a last-over six-wicket win against the Mumbai team.

This is the Capitals' third win out of the four matches they played so far this season, pushing them up to the second place on the points table after Royal Challengers Bangalore.

DC was chasing the 138-run target they required for victory and did not neglect the crucial singles and doubles. Despite Prithwi Shaw's dismissal early on in the innings after making only 7 runs off 5 balls, the partnership between Dhawan and Steve Smith (33 runs off 29 balls) steadied their position.

The victory also broke Delhi's losing streak against Mumbai Indians five times in a row, the last being their defeat in the final of IPL 2020.

The Delhi side also showed a disciplined bowling performance and managed to curb Mumbai at 137 runs for nine wickets after they decided to bat first. Leg-spinner Amit Mishra was lauded for his work with the ball having taken four wickets for 24 runs in his four overs.

Earlier in the game , the Mumbai Indians' main run scorers were Rohit Sharma (44), Ishant Kishan (26), Suryakumar Yadav (24) and Jayant Yadav (23). They however, could not raise their head after the middle-order collapse. At one stage they were at 67 for 2 after seven overs.
