Apple’s future iPads may have larger display

Are the screens going to get bigger than 12.9-inch?

This year, Apple released new iPads with M1 chips: 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro. The ideal tablet size has always been a controversial topic. Tablets with various screen sizes have been seen on the market, ranging from 8 inches to 12.9 inches. For the next-generation iPad, Apple may have decided to adopt a larger screen, as Mark Gurman said in his "Turn on" newsletter for Bloomberg. Gurman said in the newsletter that Apple engineers and designers are exploring the largest form factor. He also added that these new iPads are still a few years away from the release, "at least a few years later."

 A 13-inch or larger screen will only make customers who buy the device more likely to use it as a laptop. This means investing in Magic keyboards as well, which will cost them an additional price. How do potential buyers react who don't like to use the iPad as a PC? Everything is vague now because Apple did not make statements or clues about it.

 According to a report by Counterpoint Research, the best-selling iPad in Q1 2021 is Apple's entry-level 10.2-inch 8th-generation iPad. According to Liz Lee, a senior analyst at Counterpoint, "In the first quarter of 2021, entry-level iPad models accounted for 56% of total iPad shipments." Tablets in second and third place are the iPad Air and iPad Pro series, with a share of 19% and 18% respectively.

"As consumers have been paying attention to price and portability, the latest iPad 8 has become the best-selling model," Lee said.  With this in mind, Apple's possible decision to make an iPad with a larger screen seems counterintuitive. Given that the entry-level iPad has been favored by customers around the world, perhaps the tech giant is considering making bigger tablets that also win more fans.
