AAP Attempts to Woo UP Brahmins, Flags OffTirangaYatra in the State

As the AamAadmi Party attempts at making inroads in Uttar Pradesh before the big polls next year, they launched their “TirangaYatra” in Ayodhya on Tuesday. This was their pitch to curry favour with the Brahmins and “spoil the BJP game”.

The AAP also has plans to hold a series ‘ChanakyaSammelans‘  starting October, again a well thought of move to woo the local Brahmins, a considerable vote bank in the state, which makes up for nearly 12 per cent of Uttar Pradesh’s entire population.

Manish Sisodia, the Delhi Deputy Chief Minister and AAP leader launched the yatra alongside the party’s administrator in UP, Sanjay Singh. Together the two ministers had visited popular Hindu sites on Monday like the Ram Janmabhoomi and Hanumangarhi temple in Ayodhyaand were also spottedchanting the Hanuman Chalisa.

According to a senior AAP official, “Earlier we planned to hold the yatra only in Noida and Lucknow, but now it will be organised in all the districts in the next two months. During this yatra, we will play patriotic songs and slogans.”

Yet another functionary of the Delhi-based party cleared that their temple visits in Ayodhya as well as the Tirangayatra were part of a larger plan to obverse the BJP here who is also the ruling party in the state.

The functionary said, “I can’t claim how many seats we will win, but we can spoil the game of some parties, especially BJP, on urban seats.”

Apart from the AAP, other parties have also been making attempts to allure the Brahmins in one of BJP’s biggest strongholds, UP. The BJP and the BahujanSamaj Party (BSP) have been organising ‘Jan SammelanYatras‘ and the Samajwadi Party (SP) is holding a ‘Shiv SevakSammelan‘.

Hitting out at the BJP, Singh said on Monday, “AAP’s true nationalism will defeat BJP’s fake nationalism. AAP’s TirangaYatra is getting an overwhelming response everywhere. After Ayodhya, TirangaYatra will be taken out in the entire Uttar Pradesh. Yatra will aim to bring in a new politics of development and honesty in the state.”
